Tips for advising
Here are some helpful tips about advising for study abroad
- Advise the student to start early. Study abroad takes
careful planning and time to select the right program and
adequately prepare to go abroad.
- Learn about programs at your college and throughout the
COF. In addition, you can find information on programs by
visiting our Programs-Led by COF Faculty/Staff site and
reading program titles. Mention these opportunities to students
during advising and in class.
- There are literally hundreds of programs offering semester,
academic year-long, winter and summer study abroad opportunities.
Students can enroll in these programs either through another
college or through a third-party program provider. Most
COF schools have set up a system for transferring credit.
See Contact Us for a list of study abroad advisors at the
COF schools.
- Federal and State Aid can be used for study abroad. There
are also scholarship opportunities available.
