Students who cross-register for courses at another Colleges of the Fenway institution are expected to follow the academic policies of the host institution. See the Academic Calendar for the add/drop and withdrawal deadlines.
COF Wide Policies & Procedures
- Students may register for up to 2 courses via cross registration per semester
- Students are not permitted to cross-register in the first semester at their institution (1st semester first year students, or 1st semester transfer students)
- Students must be eligible to register at their home institution to be eligible for cross-registration (i.e. no account holds)
- A cross-registered course is counted as part of the student’s academic load at the home institution and tuition is paid as normal to the student’s home institution under the policies of that institution. All course-specific fees, such as lab fees or program fees associated with travel courses, are the responsibility of the student.
- Cross-registered students follow the academic schedule, academic policies, and student conduct policies of the hosting institution at which they are cross-registered. Any violation of the academic policy will be investigated and resolved by the host institution.
- It is the student’s responsibility to work with their academic or faculty advisor to determine whether or not a particular course satisfies the requirements for a major, minor, certification or license and graduation.
- Cross-registering students can get permission from their home institutions’ residence life office for early arrival/late departures if there is a conflict between the two institutions’ schedules. It is the responsibility of the cross-registered student to contact their residential life office to make such arrangements.
- Students who participate in social events or visit others at another Colleges of the Fenway institution are expected to follow the code of conduct of the host institution. Any violation of the code of conduct will be referred back to and investigated by the student’s home institution, in conjunction with the campus in which the violation occurred.
- Students may not cross-register for courses that overlap with, or conflict in schedule with courses they are registered for at their home institution
- Students must be enrolled as a full-time student to participate in cross registration, excluding summer term cross-registration

- Cross-registered students taking a course via cross-registration in their final semester before graduating are responsible for communicating with their registrars’ office regarding grade submission timelines and graduation honors calculations
- Exceptions to policies (enrollment in more than 2 cross-registration courses, enrollment as a first-time student, enrollment in a course at capacity) must be processed through the respective registrar’s office, rather than by contacting individual faculty members
Institution Specific Policies
Emmanuel College:
- Emmanuel College does not permit students on academic probation to cross-register.
- Emmanuel College has residency requirements regarding the percentage of your major and minor requirement courses which can be taken outside of Emmanuel. Please contact the registrar’s office for questions.
Massachusetts College of Art and Design:
- MassArt students must be enrolled in at least 9 credits prior to being eligible for cross-registration.
Wentworth Institute of Technology:
- Wentworth students must be enrolled in at least 12 credits prior to being eligible for cross-registration. Cross-registration courses may not be used to reach full-time credit status, except in special circumstances approved by the registrar’s office.
