King Boston

King Boston is a program of the Boston Foundation working closely with the City of Boston to create a living memorial and programs honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Coretta Scott King, and their time and work together in Boston. The memorial is intended to inspire visitors to reflect on the values of racial and economic justice that both espoused. Through the memorial and related programming, King Boston envisions an inclusive and equitable Boston for all.

On March 29, 2022, Colleges of the Fenway announced the signing of a formal partnership between the consortium and King Boston, and the appointment of King Boston’s Director of Community Engaged Research, Dr. April Khadijah Inniss, as the first COF Scholar-In-Residence. Through this collaborative partnership, the organizations will provide support for community-based research and identify partnership opportunities for programming within the Colleges of the Fenway, the city of Boston and beyond.

“We are thrilled to be embarking on this broadening of our collaboration and action based on the legacies of both Dr. Martin Luther, King Jr. and Coretta Scott King and look forward to partnering with King Boston in our efforts to build inclusive and equitable campuses and city of Boston, said Claire Ramsbottom, Executive Director of Colleges of the Fenway.

As part of this agreement, the institutions will provide Dr. April Khadijah Innis and King Boston access to their libraries and archives as well as facilitating relationships between their student, staff and faculty populations who are engaging in specific community-based research projects and offer event space and speakers for King Boston’s Embrace Ideas Festival set to kick-off in June 2022. King Boston will share relevant research data and expertise as Colleges of Fenway seeks to advance their justice and equity priorities.
