Emmanuel College is pleased to announce the addition of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing to its undergraduate liberal arts and sciences program offerings.
On October 10, 2018, the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing accepted Emmanuel’s application for prerequisite approval status, allowing the College to recruit prospective high school students into the program for the fall of 2019. This four-year undergraduate cohort model program combines classroom and laboratory experiences, clinical practice placements and a liberal arts and sciences curriculum to prepare students to successfully take and pass the NCLEX-RN exam.
“Emmanuel’s location in the world-renowned Longwood Medical and Academic Area, as well as the College’s rich history in the science and health fields, make it an ideal environment for educating the next generation of registered nurses,” said Emmanuel College President Sr. Janet Eisner, SNDdeN. “We at Emmanuel have been committed to training some of the area’s best nurses for nearly 40 years through adult learner programs, and are so pleased today to extend this to the traditional undergraduate market.”
This new Bachelor of Science in Nursing program will be within Emmanuel College’s School of Nursing, which also includes the RN-to-BSN, launched in 1980, and the Master of Science in Nursing, launched in 2011 with tracks in nursing education and nursing management. Accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Emmanuel has strong existing partnerships with local hospitals including Brigham & Women’s Hospital, Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston Children’s Hospital, Boston Medical Center, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and others which will be augmented to include clinical placements in maternity, pediatrics and adult acute care.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment opportunities for registered nurses are projected to grow much faster than other fields, with 15% growth projected through 2026. Job prospects for RNs with a baccalaureate degree are even stronger. At Emmanuel, students will be immersed in the clinical practice of nursing as well as the behavioral sciences, with a curriculum rooted in the College’s Catholic educational mission – an emphasis on intellectual inquiry and integrity, a commitment to justice and peace, and a strong sense of community and service to others.
Emmanuel College is currently accepting applications from prospective high school students this fall and admitting students into the program in early 2019 following the next phases of approval by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing.
