Emmanuel Chemistry Department Earns Accreditation from American Chemical Society

Emmanuel College’s Department of Chemistry was recently accredited by the American Chemical Society (ACS), a renowned organization and the world’s largest scientific society that promotes excellence in chemistry education and serves as an authority on program evaluation in the field.

ACS-approved programs denote a wide-ranging and rigorous chemistry education that gives students the intellectual, technical and communication skills to become effective scientific professionals.

“This accreditation points to the hard work of our students and to the amazing faculty members we have in our department who contribute so much to student success and support in and out of the classroom,” said Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Chemistry and Physics Aren Gerdon. “We have a wonderful and strong department and look forward to continuing to educate our students at a high level.”

ACS is a leading publisher of authoritative scientific information and a group that promotes excellence in chemistry education for undergraduate students. ACS-approved programs are marked as such for their accomplished faculty, well-maintained infrastructure and comprehensive curriculum. These institutions benefit in their ability to attract top high school talent and prepare graduates with a high level of technical groundwork to maximize career potential. Students of ACS-approved programs have access to a broad network of scientific professionals, facilitating connections and opening doors for students.

“The ACS accreditation allows students to get a chemistry education that is uniquely Emmanuel, while also getting the stamp of approval from the American Chemical Society to say that this is a top-notch program,” said Dr. Gerdon. “Industry employers, graduate schools, and medical schools know ACS as the unequivocal standard in chemistry education, so this degree will help make our students stand out among the top students.”
