For Our Common Home – Resounding Ecojustice

Composer Linda J. Chase discusses her new oratorio for choir and chamber orchestra based on Pope Francis’s ecological call to action Linda J. Chase, PhD, bridges notated and improvised musical worlds, weaving together elements of classical, jazz, and gospel music. Her compositions often focus on themes of peace and justice and draw inspiration from the natural world. Professor Chase teaches ecomusicology, composition, interdisciplinary improvisation, and spirituality in music at New England Conservatory and Berklee College of Music. She founded the Peace and Justice Arts Café concert series joining music students with local communities where the arts invite dialogue and serve as a vehicle for social change. Her scholarship and teaching explore approaches to environmental and social justice education through a pedagogy of listening. She is part of the Landscape Music network and leads Deep Listening workshops informed by practices of composer Pauline Oliveros.
