Global Education Opportunities (GEO) Center Updates

Study Abroad Pre-Departure Orientation: Subcommittee members from Emmanuel College, MassArt, Simmons College and the GEO Center, dive into the next phase of pre-departure orientation revamp with updating and improving the Handbook for travelers abroad as well as the online learning modules that all students are required to review prior to travel.  Volunteers from the COF GEO Center, Study Abroad Council, and returned study abroad students administered two in-person orientations to 89 COF students going abroad this summer, fall, and academic year.  Attendees were pleased by the health, safety, and cultural information they received, especially by hearing the hands on experience from the returnees. Study Abroad Pre-Departure Orientation: More than 90 students from five COF colleges attend two Study Abroad Pre-Departure Orientations in November and December.  These students were bound for 16 different countries for a period ranging from a few weeks to the entire spring semester.  Destinations include:  Argentina, Australia, Belize, China, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Jamaica, New Zealand, Senegal, South Africa, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom.  Students in attendance experienced a new Pre-Departure Orientation program that was developed over the summer by subcommittee with members from Emmanuel College, MassArt and Simmons College and included contributions from COF staff of […]

Emergency Management

Our mission: To sustain and develop robust emergency management programs to ensure the protection of our community. In recent years, the Colleges of the Fenway has made significant progress in enhancing emergency management programs across all five of our institutions. This has resulted from great teamwork among each campus’s Public Safety Departments, key leadership, emergency preparedness committees, and many other dedicated people from across our colleges and universities. Cross-Registration for Students

Cross-registration provides full-time undergraduates of the Colleges of the Fenway with the opportunity to take two courses per semester at any of the six institutions at no additional tuition charge. Cross-registration provides students with the advantages of a small college but exposes them to resources similar to a large university. This enables students to broaden both their intellectual and social capacities and introduces them to faculty, research, colleagues, and curricula they would not otherwise have experienced. Calendar The five member schools of the Colleges of the Fenway do not have the same academic calendar. All classes will start each semester within two weeks of each other. Students are responsible for following the calendar of the host institution. Students are also responsible for discussing housing needs with their home institution. If a conflict exists between calendars, it is the student’s responsibility to negotiate an acceptable resolution with the appropriate faculty members (i.e. final exams at the same time). The Colleges of the Fenway has purchased Sprintax, an online tax software, to assist international students and scholars in completing their federal taxes. All persons must file something but some people are able to do it on their own or through Sprintax.  The software generally becomes available in mid to late February. This program encourages academic enrichment and community building through its offering of classes, performances, and attendance at the American College Dance Association Conference. COF Dance is an inclusive, supportive environment and welcomes students, faculty, and staff of all abilities and experience. Weekly technique classes are offered in addition to semester-long repertory classes which culminate in a final performance.
